Abbey Wood Nursery School

SEND Testimonials

At Abbey Wood nursery school we provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where children with various needs can thrive. We foster opportunities for children to interact with their peers in structured and unstructured play. This helps children with social and emotional needs develop important social skills.

Early identification of special educational needs is key to supporting children at our nursery. Nursery staff are trained to recognise potential signs and work with parents and other professionals to develop appropriate interventions. This is done through, regularly observing children to identify potential learning difficulties or behavioural concerns.

We collaborate by working closely with parents, caregivers, and external professionals (such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, or educational psychologists) to understand the child’s needs. We conduct informal assessments to monitor progress and make adjustments to the learning environment if necessary.

We believe that parents play a crucial role in supporting their child’s development. Therefore, we regularly communicate with parents about their child’s progress, challenges, and achievements. Offer guidance and resources to parents, helping them support their child at home. For example, offering advice on speech therapy, social skills development, or sensory activities. If necessary we create a personalised learning plan (PLP) with input from parents, staff, and external professionals to outline targets and support strategies.
