Welcome to Abbey Wood Nursery School.
We are a Maintained Nursery School in the heart of Abbey Wood in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
We have remained open throughout the COVID pandemic and see part of our role here as ensuring that we are supporting our local community. However, this has been a very strange year and one thing that we can all be certain about is that at the moment nothing is certain.
The school is fortunate to have experienced staff who are able to work with children and their families so that they can achieve their very best. It is important to understand that we are one of the original ‘open air’ nurseries, having just celebrated our 75th Birthday. This means that children play outside in all weathers, we see this as an important part of the children’s learning. During the lockdown and beyond, this has become even more important as many local children do not have access to the outside at home. We are also aware of the importance of fresh air helping to stop the spread of COVID; we hope that this means the children are able to safely access many areas of the curriculum that they would always have done.
We usually try to welcome parents and families to all our events, but we are unable to do so at the moment. However, we will continue to have focus weeks around literacy; creativity; and science, just in some slightly different ways. We will continue to have our live eggs that we watch hatch into chicks and to have a sports day.
Please explore our website for more information and let us know if you think we have something missing or you have any questions. We are very proud of our school and love to show it off. We are still having socially distanced visits if you would like to come and see the school. Schools without children are odd places, unfortunately we are only able to show parents around after 4pm, when most of the staff have left, and ensuring social distancing and the wearing of masks.
